Nice to have a good, solid Mexican restaurant in Spring Grove! Great space, really good food, excellent value. Everything is really homemade, from the chips and salsa to the green and red sauces served with the meal. Service just a little slow because not enough wait staff, but otherwise nothing to complain about. Bar looks really nice, too. Not too loud. Highly recommended.

My daughter and I went to Antonio's for dinner. The salsa was good. Chips were obviously homemade but very greasy. My daughter ordered the chicken fajitas and since it came on a sizzling skillet and the chicken was already well done...by the time the skillet cooled, her chicken was as tough as chicken jerky. There wasn't much flavor to the fajitas or the tacos that I ordered. I found out that they had fried ice cream which is my favorite. I asked the waitress if it was crispy or chewy. If its done right...it should be nice and crispy. She assured me it was crispy so I ordered it. The coating was so incredibly sticky and chewy that one bite was all I could take. It stuck to my teeth and tasted horrible. When the waitress came by and I told her, she just shrugged and gave me the check. She didn't even take it off even through she took a full plate away from me. Not great service at all. We should have swung through the taco bell drive thru;...its better and cheaper...

Food is run of the mill mexican restaurant fare. Not bad, but from the really excellent quality of the interior furnishings (it's beautiful inside), I expected something above average. Limited menu selections. Seviche is good - that's the only non standard item. Service however is why I cant give it a 3 or 3.5 star. Have had some very rude experiences with some of the female wait/management staff.

    not good at all.

I can't say enough about Antonio's restaurant and its owners. They have opened up their restaurant to many different groups- including our high school's football and soccer teams. It is great when a restaurant can support a town in a variety of ways. The food is delicious and authentic. Thank you Tony and Susie!

This bar had a lot of potential based on the amount of money that went into it, however the owners screwed it up. We started out watching the Blackhawks playoff games here because the bar across the street (TOmmys) blows. For whatever reason the tv's in ANtionios are on the outside walls of the facility rather than the giant beams bordering the bar so the TV's are so far away you need a telescope to see. The 2nd reason this bar sucks is because the owner, no matter what day of the week is sitting at the bar perched over like a hawk watching your every move almost like a parent at a underage drinking party. It's super lame. The tacos are ok, I like how they serve them with cilantro and onion. 8 of us that watched the playoff games here will now be watching them at the new bar Neversink Inn down the St.

That was the worst meal I have EVER had! We waited nearly 90 minutes for 3 tacos, a burrito and chicken fajitas. The fajitas were burnt, to the point you couldn't eat them. When we complained about the wait we were told there was a large party with a $200 bill... (our bill was $95 and a 1/3 was inedible! ) No compensation for the wait or burnt food. The owner came out and got mad that we were upset. Dont think the drinks will help either.... I ordered a bottle of the $2 domestic beer, only to be told that was the special 2 days ago "someone" forgot to change the sign when you walk in the front door. Instead of apologizing for the mix up, I was charged full price . So I switched to the Margarits that were on special, big mistake The margaritas had no tequila and tasted watered down. We left angry and hungry. .. and paid full price for crappy food and service.

We live in the area and have visited this place since it opened! We went the first week it was open and it was great! Unfortunately it has only gone downhill. The food has gotten worse and worse. I just picked up 2 pork tacos to go. There were 2 chunks of meat in 1 taco and the other had a tiny bit more. And on top of the measly portion of the pork it was also completely dry. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on!

My visit was on 7/7/14. There was little guests in the dining area and about 15 people at the bar. The wait staff was polite but that was the highlight of the evening. The table was sticky and the menus had wet salsa on them. Tap water tastes like eggs. Like all Mexican restaurants, you usually receive chips and salsa, a mild and hot. They only served one below mild so I asked if they had a hot salsa. The server brought out a squeeze bottle and left. It was not salsa and I don't know what it was or where it came from and I don't usually squirt each chip with a sauce out of a community bottle. Next she said they make a hot jalapeño kind, so i said I'd like to try it. Brought out a little Dixie shot glass sample to dip a chip in. It was not salsa but a green "paste". 97% of Mexican restaurants serve salsa in bowls not shot glasses or squirt bottles. Finally the meal: I had the gorditas.. the gorditas them self where rock hard, the chicken tastes like it was boiled too long and was tough and dry with zero flavor and hard to eat. The rice was not cooked and had uncooked rice throughout the dish, I don't like to eat rocks. The beans were cold and had bits of the uncooked hard rice in it. I literally took four bites of the dish and I couldn't eat anymore. Absolutely terrible food. I left and picked up a pizza.

Stopped in to catch the end of the game last Sunday on our way back from Lake Geneva. Service was good. The owner Tony was very nice. Had their Wings Caliente. They had a Mexican twist and taste. Very Yummy and Very Spicy. $2.00 Drafts so very economical. They also had 1.25 Tamales!!!!! We didn't order the tamales but took home Tacos. We had Steak Tacos w/ cilantro and the Steak and Chorizo Tacos with Cilantro. We didn't eat them until about 4 hours later and warmed them up in the microwave. They were still EXCELLENT. We have a cottage in Lake Geneva and pass this place every weekend. We will definately return for yummy mexican food. T

Never had a bad experience here. Food is great, never had a problem with watered down drinks or anything that other people here are complaining about. I think people on here just look to complain. This place has GREAT tacos. Try the Al Pastor or steak ones (my favorite with a splash of salsa verde). As far as the person stating that their chips are just fried tortillas, what do you think tortilla chips are supposed to be? Stay at home and eat tostitos.

The food itself is only 1 star; the waitress wasn't very good, but she was friendly. We ordered fajitas and carne asada. both were completely bland and flavorless. The order of carne asada consisted of just a few chunks of meat, and mostly potatoes, it was covered in a red sauce that tasted like diluted tomato paste. The meat was tough and chewy, and the waitress didn't bring steak knives. The refried beans were watered down to a soupy consistency, and the rice had no flavor. We went home hungry. And to add insult to injury, the meal gave me "toilet troubles".(It could have been the very greasy fried tortilla chips). The Montezuma's Revenge was the only thing authentic about the entire meal. I was generous with a 2 star rating. I would never eat there again; but the staff was friendly.

Went here for a friend's birthday. She had been here previously and said the food is hit or miss. The space is awesome with lots of potential. Unfortunately the food is not. Chips were not 'homemade' but rather flour tortillas fried. We do this at home here too. Salsa was blah. Ordered a regular margarita, only to find out later on the bill that I was charged $1 extra for Cuervo! That's like ordering coffee and paying extra for the water! Plus, it was watered down. I have little tolerance and could have easily had three of those things with no buzz. My friend ordered a carne asada burrito which she said was good. Plate came with nothing but a burrito on it. I ordered a chicken torta and it came out on a nice roll but it was more italian than mexican. The chicken was absolutely bland and I was forced to using my 'chips' as spoons to get some of the salsa on the thing. Total bill with tip was $26.49. I would not return to be honest because it was nothing special. I would either go to Pancho's in Genoa City or drive to Grande Jake's in Antioch. Now THAT's Mexican! If I wanted a drink I would have to agree with Kyle K who previously commented and go to the Neversink. Or Tommy's. It does blow there but they have these great beer dough bite things.

If heaven has food, it's from Antonio's. I've been to this restaurant for the food probably a dozen times over the years and I have never once had an issue with it-- and I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to good Mexican. So as I'm reading past reviews simply saying the food isn't good, I truly don't understand where that comes from. I have tried a variety of things of the menu, and never once have I been disappointed with my choice. I have two things that I order that are out-of-this-world good: the ceviche and the taco dinner. So let's talk the ceviche first. This appetizer comes with homemade chips (although I do agree with past reviewers that they are a little greasy, they still taste good), and the ceviche itself is quite simple-- but still completely delicious. It's a combination of tomato, catfish (I believe), avocado, cilantro, lime juice and onion. They also give you a side of mild hot sauce to put in with the ceviche, but I prefer not to and eat it in its bare form. Next, let's chat about the taco dinner-- simple heavenly. To start, you get a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I normally go with the corn myself. You also have a wide range of meats to choose from-- steak, chicken (my choice, because it has the grill marks and all) chorizo, and I believe beef. Don't quote me on that, but I think those are the options. The toppings for the taco are the standard Mexican fare-- cilantro and onion. So simple, yet so delicious. You also get limes to squeeze over your tacos and the normal Spanish rice and refried beans on the side. The decor in this restaurant is... resourceful, to put it best. They've used a lot of plywood and cement to create the tables and bar (which has a super-cool pergola above it), and although it may sound tacky, it actually gives the restaurant and bar area nice character. Also, the prices are decent! I hope my review has swayed you to try this hidden gem, because it is certainly worth your time to try it!

READ ALL REVIEWs. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED BY NOW. THERE ARE THE "not useful reviews" those are 100 percent accurate of this place. Couldn't give a one star unfortunately. Came here a few months back and it was ok. Went the other night for a late night drink with my wife. HA what a joke!! Dead empty at 8pm except for a "bartender" who's breast looked like they were going to fall out. Starting to doubt she was even an employee. Then the only other people in there was a male and female and the male part was BEYOND DRUNK. He had one of those 100oz beer Towers...to himself! Drinking straight out of it. Getting loud and I hope he wasn't driving. He should of have been cut off way way before. I go to order a redbull and vodka ...no red bull... I settle for a dos equis. Wife gets a margarita...horrible. All mixture and very little if any alcohol. Music was blasting and seems like the place is just a free for all. I definitely will not return ever.

Visited this place rather recently and it wasn't all that bad. (I noticed a lot of the negative reviews were dated around the same time the restaurant opened.) Overall, the food isn't too bad but there is certainly room for improvement. They do give you a generous portion size though. We showed up at an odd time and the restaurant was pretty empty so rating the wait times probably wouldn't be an accurate reflection of what most customers would experience. In any case, the service was very quick and the staff friendly as well. One minor annoyance throughout the duration of the meal was the all wooden benches each table has. They're not exactly the most comfortable thing to sit on and some additional padding would be appreciated. Bottom line, if you're looking for Mexican food and you're in the area, this place is worth a shot. It won't be the best authentic Mexican meal you've ever had, but it'll probably satisfy the craving.

If i could give less stars i would!! This place was awful! We got there and got seated right away. It took about 10mins to have a server come over. then mid sentence she had to stop taking our order to get a drink of water RUDE! then when we put our drink order in it took about 10mins to get our pitcher of mango margaritas. I know as a bartender it does not take that long and it was NOT busy. they brought the pitcher but no glass till 5 mins later cause she had to rim them. We ordered our food I got the chicken fajitas and i only have 4 chunks of chicken in the mix and im serious since i counted a huge pile of burned peppers and onions along with it!!!!!! the food took and hour to come out. we got there at 7:00pm and did not leave until 9:30pm and it wasn't even busy. Go else where and avoid at all cost!!!!!!!!!

When this place first opened, it was very good. Something happened. Our last three experiences were bad. The service has been sub-par, food has been mediocre and it seems like no one cares. I really want Antonio's to succeed but we will head back to some of the old standby's.

Have tried this place numerous times and can't say too many good things about it. The service is usually friendly, but very slow. This last time, we waited an hour for (2) tacos, tostadas, and a chimichanga. Our orders were wrong and we were charged extra for vegetables and beans. These were subbed for the meat (we're vegetarians) and ended up being charged an extra $3!!! For veggies!!!! There was no potatoes on the tostadas, and wouldn't offer us any after pointing out they messed up. Their margaritas are too sweet and really weak. We will not be back again. This was the LAST try!

We have been going to this resturaunt since it has opened and had not been disappointed until now. We were told by the waitress that they had recently fired their cooks and the owner was now cooking. Probably not a good business move. Our food took an hour and we only ordered one plate. There was an immense amount of smoke from the kitchen the whole time. Our fajitas came out over cooked, the tortillas we dripping with oil and there was only one shrimp in the entire entree which we ordered as chicken and shrimp. The rice and beans were stale and cold. By far the worst meal we have had in ages. We noticed the customers sitting across from us grossed out by their meal. At the same time the owner was called to another table to what appeared to be another complaint. I can't see us returning, which is sad since we had previously enjoyed their food.

Went here for the $1.50 tacos. Got steak and chicken. were absolutely delicious. ASked for a corona, they informed us that they only had WARM corona, nothing had been put in the coolers yet. Margarita tasted like a virgin one, not sure if there was any alcohol in it at all. Nice atmosphere, nice staff, great tacos, but weak drinks.

I can't say enough about Antonio's restaurant and its owners. They have opened up their restaurant to many different groups- including our high school's football and soccer teams. It is great when a restaurant can support a town in a variety of ways. The food is delicious and authentic. Thank you Tony and Susie!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
